Jury Comments

The armature is the design of a new corridor for Edmonton, still in its infancy. The jury acknowledged many of the technical efforts accomplished to achieve the minimal design, and appreciated the few varying elements that work to achieve the beginning of a new vibrant pedestrian thoroughfare as future projects are developed on the adjacent sites.

An urban design project that provides a strong slip knot to begin the story about urban renewal and revitalization for a large east downtown development for the City of Edmonton. The Armature maintains good urban design principles in planning and storm water management strategies that weaves a foundation that responds to the existing neighborhood. It provides a backdrop for the prescribed programmed follies but also anticipates what will be developed next along its defined edge.

A laudable attempt to stitch together a neighbourhood with an Armature of resilient trees, paving patterns, seating and playgrounds.
