Eligibility

Entrants must be one of the following:

  • an AAA intern architect;
  • an AAA intern interior designer;
  • a student of the Master of Architecture (MArch) program at the University of Calgary;
  • a student of the Bachelor of Interior Design program at Mount Royal University;

Please note: Students will be required to apply to become members of the AAA using the ‘Student Membership Application’. Student membership is free for students enrolled in an accredited architectural or interior design program in Alberta.

Judging

The AAA’s Prairie Design Awards committee will act as the jury for the PDA Poster Competition.

Some of the elements the judges will be looking for:

  • Innovation and creativity
  • Layout of poster
  • How the submission communicates the spirit of the PDA

Poster Specifications

Poster must be 24” x 36” in size proportioned vertically (portrait).

  • Digital file must be 300 dpi/ppi
  • Digital file must be submitted as a JPG or PDF.
  • Poster may, but is not required to, use the PDA logo. A high resolution copy of the image may be downloaded here.

Winning Entries

Up to four (4) winning entries will be chosen by the jury, with no more than two (2) student entries and (2) intern entries being chosen. The winning entrants will receive a free Banff Session registration and $500.00 towards travel & accommodations. Winning submissions may also be profiled in the AAA’s electronic communications and through AAA social media platforms.

Submission Deadline and Criteria:

All entries, with submission form, must be received by the AAA by 11:59 PM on March 23, 2018. Entries must be submitted by email to events@aaa.ab.ca. There is no fee to submit.

i. Entrants shall communicate their ideas on a single Arch D sheet, submitted digitally, the content of which is unrestricted in terms of both subject (program, site, etc.) and medium (a single image, multiple images, drawings, photographs, renderings, collage, etc.). Content must be within the entrants rights to use and publish. A former contest entry cannot be submitted for consideration. The entry must be original and unique to this competition.

ii. The project file must be a press quality flat PDF file generated directly from the design software so as to retain vector properties. Fonts and images must be embedded into the document and the resolution must not be less than 300 dpi/ppi.

iii. Do not include any printer’s marks or security protection or restrictions. Any other type of presentation will be disqualified. The names of student participants, their schools and faculty sponsors must not appear on the art boards.

iv. Any additional text used in the design must be presented in English.

v. The design must be accompanied by the submission form and, if necessary, the ‘Student Membership Application’.

vi. Submissions will become the property of the AAA. By submitting an entry, the participant gives AAA the right to display, reproduce or print presentation with credit given to the participants.
